ARTIST STATEMENT

My work broadly addresses the subject of the self, specifically the anxious self and the voyeuristic self. It varies from film to installation, to performance to camera. More recently my work has moved online and evolved into 3d visual art. What is important in my work is the relationship between the artist, the art and the audience.
My practice is informed by aspects of time such as duration, through my reading of Henri Bergson and “Chronophobia” - time experienced as uneasy.  My work is autobiographical, belonging to net.art due to its place on the internet and takes influence from artists such as Molly Soda and Tehching Hsieh.
An example of my work is a film of myself listening to music, dancing for the duration of an album. It’s 40 minutes long and silent. It is an analysis of the body movements that occur throughout the film. The work explores anxiety through the fear of judgement and presenting the real you. It tackles voyeurism, presenting something that would normally be private and presenting it for people’s enjoyment and entertainment. The film is projected onto a wall making me life size and making me the object and the artwork.
My aim is to create a greater understanding of myself through my artwork and present this to an audience.
